Being a Nurse for over 20 years, I
believe I am expert on the field of nursing. I have seen it all when it comes
to nursing.
I've seen nurses quit even before becoming nurses, in nursing
school. I've seen nurses quit because of the politics involved in nursing. You
may ask yourself, what is really going on in the nursing field? It's
been my experience it is best to know the "real YOU" prior to
entering Nursing School. Ask yourself a few basic questions. Is this something
I want to do for the rest of my life? Am I willing to give up weekends, nights
and holidays for this career? Am I able to care for criminals like, child
molesters, pedophiles, rapist and murderers? If you can truthfully answer yes
to those questions, you should do well when you attend school to earn a NursingDegree. You should have a Love and over- all general concern for the benefit
and well being others. You should not become a nurse to make a fast buck!
Facts about Nursing:
- Nurses work long hours on their feet
- Nurses cannot pick and choose who their patients are
- Nurses spend more time completing paper work than actually doing hands on patient care
- Nursing is rewarding on so many levels
The great
caveat about nursing is that there are so many fields to choose from. Pediatric
Nursing,(caring for babies) Gerontology Nursing (caring for the elderly) and
Neo Natal Nursing (caring for premature babies and sick babies), to name a few.
If you're not afraid of hard work and have a Love and caring of people then
nursing would be an excellent field for you to go into.
Although I've had a few jobs along the way, no other job has offered me greater life experiences than nursing. Like so many women and men who made the choice to give back and become a nurse I am Happy that I did.
